Keep the report itself

Store the inspection report, date, contractor and any classification or recommendation exactly as issued. Do not reduce a technical report to a green tick in a household app.

Track remedial work separately

If the report identifies work, create an action for each item or work package and keep the completion evidence. That preserves the difference between “inspection completed” and “recommended work completed”.

Record the source of the next date

A specialist insurer may state an interval, or an electrician may recommend one based on the installation and use. Record the source. Do not copy a generic interval from an unrelated property.

Keep alterations in the history

Rewiring, extensions, outbuildings, new circuits and heating changes can alter the electrical record. Attach certificates and update the property history after substantial work.

Use the record at insurance renewal

If an insurer requests evidence, you can find the report and any associated remedial documents without searching through years of email attachments.
